Getting Started

Manual Focus VideoCam gives you precise, manual control over your camera's focus while recording video — ideal for product shots, focus pulls, macro work, and any situation where autofocus hunts or drifts.

On first launch the app asks for permission to use the:

  • Camera — to show the preview and record video.
  • Microphone — to record audio with your video.
  • Photo Library — to save finished recordings.

If you declined a permission, you can re-enable it in iOS Settings → Manual Focus VideoCam.

Setting Focus Presets

Focus presets let you instantly recall a saved focus distance with a single tap, and the camera smoothly animates to it. Here's how to save one:

  1. Set the focus you want to save. Drag the vertical slider, or tap the preview to autofocus, until your subject is sharp.
  2. Double-tap a preset button. It turns orange to show it is in edit mode, ready to capture the current focus.
  3. Tap it once to save. A single tap on the orange button stores the current focus position into that preset.
  4. Recall any time. Tap a preset button once and the focus smoothly animates to its saved position. The active preset is outlined in yellow.

Tip: You can also rename presets and fine-tune their exact value in Settings → Focus Presets. The Focus Transition setting controls how quickly the camera animates between focus points.

Controls & Gestures

The interface adapts to both portrait and landscape orientations, and the preview fills the whole screen.

Settings

Watermark & Upgrade

The free version adds a small text watermark — “Manual Focus VideoCam Free” and “by SuperAktiv AS” — to the bottom of each recording.

You can remove it with a one-time in-app purchase, Remove Video Watermark, found in Settings → Upgrade.

Good to know

  • Removing the watermark applies to videos you record after purchasing. Clips already recorded keep their watermark.
  • The purchase is a one-time, non-consumable unlock tied to your Apple Account.
  • Switched to a new device or reinstalled the app? Tap Restore Purchase in Settings → Upgrade to unlock it again at no extra cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

The focus keeps changing on its own while I record.
Make sure you've set a manual focus using the slider or a preset rather than tapping to autofocus. Tapping the screen switches that area back to autofocus; using the slider locks focus at a fixed distance.
How do I save my current focus to a preset button?
Double-tap the preset button (it turns orange), then single-tap it to store the current focus. See Setting Focus Presets above for the full steps.
Where are my recordings saved?
Finished videos are saved to your iOS Photos library. Make sure you've granted photo library access in iOS Settings.
I bought the watermark removal but still see the watermark.
The watermark is removed only from videos recorded after the purchase — earlier clips keep theirs. If new recordings still show it, open Settings → Upgrade and tap Restore Purchase, then record a new clip. Ensure you're signed in with the same Apple Account used for the purchase.
Why is there a short delay before a free recording appears in Photos?
In the free version the app re-encodes the clip to burn in the watermark text, which takes a moment. The paid version saves instantly with no re-encode.
Why can't I pick a higher resolution or frame rate?
Only the resolutions and frame rates supported by your specific device are shown, and the available frame rates depend on the resolution you choose.

Privacy

Manual Focus VideoCam records video and audio only when you start a recording, and saves it directly to your device's Photos library. The app does not collect, transmit, or share your videos, photos, or personal data. In-app purchases are handled securely by Apple; we never see your payment details.
